Sonnets for Classical Stars

This collection of 100 sonnets has been written as a celebration of the ancient world. It features one hundred prominent figures taken from a specially created list which includes gods, emperors, heroes, politicians, philosophers and writers. There is an even balance between Greek and Roman characters and the index at the end makes it straightforward to find particular names.

Sonnets for Classical Stars follows on from Julian Morgan's earlier book, Sonnets for Yorkshire Stars, which was well received by featured subjects Baroness Betty Boothroyd, Dickie Bird and Ian McMillan, who said, "these sonnets hit the nail on the head, telling perfectly crafted stories that brim with rhythm and dance with rhyme."

"Here are sonnets as history essays, as digests of the past, as mini encyclopedias and as rhyming invitations to explore further. So enjoy, and explore further!"

Ian McMillan
